End date
Your Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) must cover the full period of your visa. The length of stay is based on the course you intend to study. Additional time may be granted at the end of the course depending on its length.

The maximum length of stay for a Student visa will generally not exceed 5 years.
| Example 1 | Duration of course is from 1 February 2023 to 1 September 2023. This is less than 10 months , hence add 1 month to the course end date. In this example your OSHC dates would be 1 February 2023 to 1 October 2023. |
| Example 2 | Duration of course is from 1 February 2023 to 31 October 2023. This is over 10 months ending in October, hence add 2 months to the course end date. In this example your OSHC dates would be 1 February 2023 to 31 December 2023. |
| Example 3 | If your course is from 1 February 2023 to 31 December 2024. This is over 10 months ending in December, hence Select 15th March of the next year as the course end date. In this example your OSHC dates would be 1 February 2023 to 15 March 2025. |
Postgraduate research students
The length of stay for Postgraduate Research students is generally 6 months longer than the usual relevant period set out in the table above. This additional time allows these students to remain in Australia during the interactive marking of their thesis.
For example, Postgraduate Research students who are undertaking a course of more than 10 months duration finishing in November-December, we will generally grant a visa that ceases 15 September (an additional 6 months from 15 March) of the year following course completion.
